Theresa established the school in early 2007 after working with Green Candle Dance Company and realising that it was everyone’s right to be able to experience the joy of movement and dance. She has worked with a wide range of clients from 6 months right up to the elderly within centres and hospitals. Theresa is currently training in British Sign Language BSL and can cater for young children with communication difficulties in most of her classes, giving everyone the ‘chance to dance’.
Theresa currently teaches on the dance programme at Surrey Sports Park and works with many educational and health organisations within Surrey and Hampshire. She is the UK representative for the Australian Teachers of Dancing and is currently spreading the word of the ATOD Syllabi.
Sarah Davies – Administrator, Class Teacher
Sarah recently graduated from the University of Surrey with a BA Hons in Dance and Culture. Sarah has been part of the Theresa Hawkins School of Dance team for 2 years and is currently training with the ATOD to further her teaching qualifications. Sarah successfully completed her Sports Leadership Qualification in dance and is also currently training with the IDTA in Associate Freestyle, Street Dance and Cheer Techniques. Sarah teaches Hip Hop and our performance group and is also a vital part of our Birthday Boogies team. Along with this, Sarah co-ordinates our administrative duties here at Theresa Hawkins School of Dance.
Harriet Oughton – Musical Director
Harriet is an award-winning composer and musical director. She has worked on around 40 amateur and professional shows, including productions at the National Theatre, The Savoy Theatre, Jermyn Street Theatre and The Union. She also works at Guildford School of Acting as a vocal tutor, where she works with young performers aged 9-18.
Harriet has a degree from Southampton University, where she focussed on conducting and composition for theatre and film. She has written and produced scores for three award-winning short films and a radio play.
Lindsay Beale
Lindsay graduated with a degree in Dance and Culture in 2007. Since then she has undertaken an internship with Hampshire Dance and was an assistant for their Hip-Hop youth dance company, NoCo. She trained with T21 dance company for a year and performed at the Brighton Dome in 2007 as part of the Breakin’ Conventions tour. Lindsay now joins us as a Birthday Boogies leader and class teacher.
Jen Hansford
Jen is a Fitness & Pilates Instructor and has been working in the Fleet area for 7 years. She runs Shapes Pilates classes at its home Studio 24, Fleet. As an instructor Jen prides herself on personal attention and ensuring each participant challenges their body. Shapes Pilates also specialise in Ante & Post Natal Pilates. Jen teaches some of the preschool programme at Theresa Hawkins Dance and is co-founder of Little Squirtz.
